Bald Head Island

Truly a gorgeous getaway in North Carolina.

Welcome to Bald Head Island

As one of the only islands in North Carolina that require a ferry to get to and from, Bald head Island is delightfully remote, and truly a gorgeous getaway in North Carolina. Golf carts are the method of transportation, as cars aren’t allowed on the island; with the exception of contractors and moving trucks. The rustic charm of Bald Head Island lies in its relaxing and remote vibe. It’s home to the oldest lighthouse still standing, Old Baldy, which was commissioned by Daniel Way. Even though it’s not operational, you can still make your way all the way up to the top of Old Baldy. If you’re into golf, the Bald Head Island Club’s championship course has just been named by Links Magazine as one of the best-renovated courses in the country. The Bald Head Island Conservancy also offers some great options for exploring the island’s protected maritime forests and creeks along with the species that inhabit them. At low tide, you can walk or ride your bike between Bald Head Island and Fort Fisher as the inlet that previously divided them, no longer maintained by dredging. Enjoy multiple, water view dining options while you’re here or gather groceries at the local market to grill out at home with friends and family. While Bald Head Island does have some low-key entertainment options, the best thing to do while you’re here is just to relax and enjoy the views!
